Where do the tours start?

Our tours almost always start at Hondoq Bay in Gozo.

If the weather and winds are unfavourable, we sometimes start from alternate locations. We will let you know a day before your tour of where the intended tour location will be.

Question 2

Will I see the Blue Lagoon?

Accepted Answer

Most of our tours go to Comino island which is where the Blue Lagoon is. The crossing from Gozo to Comino is about 20 minutes and these trips normally include a stop nearby or a short paddle into the Blue Lagoon. Sometimes we are not able to go into the Blue Lagoon due to weather, or busy water traffic. Your guide will discuss this with you if that situation arises.

If the tour launch location has to change to another area of Gozo due to weather/conditions then you will not see the Blue Lagoon. We will always let you know of any changes the day before your tour.

We also offer Skippered Boat Tours from the Mgarr harbour that can take you by motor boat if you would like to explore Comino and the Blue Lagoon if you would prefer that to kayaking?

Question 3

Do I need a ticket to the Blue Lagoon?

Accepted Answer

No, we only visit the Blue Lagoon on the water and do not land in that bay! Tickets are only required for those disembarking and going to shore.

The Malta Tourism Authority introduced a ticket system on 1 May 2025 to try and reduce the number of people visiting the Blue lagoon at any one time. This means anyone wanting to go ashore must get a ticket on www.bluelagooncomino.mt.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring shoes that can get wet (flip-flops will do) and sun protection such as a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. You will need to bring sufficient water along and dry clothes for after the tour.

What should I wear?

Accepted Answer

Please wear clothes that can get wet. It is important to dress appropriately for the season and weather conditions.

In the summer months, sporty gym clothes or a swimsuit are perfect. We recommend wearing water shoes or sandals and a hat to protect you from the sun. Please bring dry clothes for after the tour.

During spring and autumn, it is better to wear layers as the temperature can drop towards the end of the day. We will provide you with a waterproof jacket that you can slip on over your life vest if you start to get cold. Outside of the summer months, it is necessary to have dry clothes for after the tour.

Will I get wet?

Yes you will! You are likely to get splashed in the kayak during the tour and your feet will certainly get wet when climbing in and out the kayak. During the break we provide you will goggles (not snorkels) so you are free to enjoy the beautiful crystal blue waters too!

In the summer months you will dry very quickly in the sun, but we still suggest bringing dry clothes for after the tour. Early and late in the season we will provide you with a waterproof jacket to keep you nice and cosy if necessary.

Can I bring my phone/camera?

You are welcome to bring your personal devices/GoPros, etc. with you, but it is important to note that this is entirely at your own risk. They are likely to get splashed or dropped in the water so we recommend keeping them in a protective waterproof covering and attached to you with a lanyard.

Your guide will take photos on the tour and we will send them to you free of charge the next day! Our guides do their best to take great pics, but they are not professional photographers and their first priority is your safety.

Question 8

Where can I keep my things?

We will provide you with a dry bag so that you can bring some belongings with you on the tour. Alternatively you can lock them in our trailer or in one of our vehicles at your own risk.

Question 9

What should I not bring with me on the tour?

Accepted Answer

We suggest leaving your valuables or anything you do not wish to get wet either on land or at your accommodation. But if you do have valuables with you, they can be locked on land in our trailer or in one of our vehicles at your own risk. Alternatively, you can take them with you in the kayak in the dry bag we provide you. Please ensure that the dry bag is sealed properly; ask your guide to show you if you are unsure.

Do I need to know how to kayak?

No! All of our tours are suitable for beginners. We do our best to group people with similar abilities together.

However, kayaking is a physical sport, so we suggest that if you are unsure you visit our Can I Do This page :)

Question 11

Is there a guide with me the whole time?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the guide will greet you when you arrive and will stay with you until you are safely back on land.

During the breaks you may opt to go for a walk away from the group or to go for a swim. The guide will let you know what time you have to return.

Swimming during the breaks is an unguided part of the tour.

Can I share a kayak with the guide?

No. We don't allow this for safety reasons.

In the case of a disability, we may be able to provide a second guide or kayaker if available to share a double kayak. This may be at a surcharge.

Question 13

Will I have to share a kayak with a stranger?

Accepted Answer

No. In all normal circumstances you will always share a kayak with somebody from your group or you will be in a single kayak.

Can I choose the type of kayak I want?

For our regular tours, we automatically provide double kayaks, and we add a single kayak for odd numbered groups. Kids from 10 - 14 years old must share a double kayak with an adult.

If you feel confident to try a single kayak or have more experienced, then please let us know.

We provide sit-inside kayaks on our tours. We also have a special fleet of kayaks for more experienced paddlers as well as carbon fibre paddles.

How many people are usually in a group?

Our regular tours are limited to 6 kayaks per guide or 12 people, but we rarely have more than 10 people per tour. We normally have multiple groups out at any one time, so you may see other groups of kayakers out on the water with another guide.

If you are part of a school, company or other large group, then we can accommodate up to 60 people depending on staffing and availability.

Can I bring my child?

Children from 10 years old and up are more than welcome!

Please note that we will be in the sun for 3 hours so please assess carefully if this activity is suitable for your child.

Must I be able to swim?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we require that everyone joining us on our tours must be able to swim.

If you are comfortable in the water, but do not swim well, then please contact us and we can discuss with our head guide whether this is a suitable activity for you.

Are there restrooms?

Accepted Answer

Our most common launch location at Hondoq has a public restroom as do most of our other launch locations (except for Qbajjar). Once out on the water there is no easy access to facilities. So we suggest using the restroom at the launch location before the tour starts.

There are two public restrooms on Comino at Santa Marija Bay and the Blue Lagoon. They are not necessarily on the route, but if an emergency arises we are able to get close enough for you to access them.

What if I need to cancel?

What is your refund policy?

Accepted Answer

All regular bookings of 7 pax or less can be cancelled for a full refund up to 24 hours in advance of the start time of the tour - no questions asked! If you would like to cancel, please do so via your booking link or contact us via email, WhatsApp, contact form or by phone as soon as possible.

No-shows or cancellations after the 24 hour cut-off will generally not be refunded.

If Kayak Gozo has to cancel due to inclement weather or for any other reasons, then we will be in contact to let you know and you will be offered alternative dates or issued a full refund, as you prefer.

Groups of 8+ and special tours (multi-day bookings, events, etc.) sometimes have a longer cancellation cut-off which will be communicated to you during the booking process before you pay your deposit. Question 21

How can I book for a group of 8+ or a special tour?

Accepted Answer

We are happy to cater to groups of 8 or more at a discounted rate, or run tailored multi-day trips for kayak clubs and other similar groups, or even run a special event of up to a maximum of 60 people at a time.

In most cases we require a 50% deposit for these special bookings at the time of booking, and final payment must be made at least one week before the event. Can you accommodate special requests?

If you have any particular special requests, we encourage you to ask!

If you are an experienced paddler, feel free to ask us about special kayaks and paddles.

We will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Question 23

Do you provide food?

Accepted Answer

No, for our regular tours we do not provide food.

For kayak clubs, multi-day trips etc. we provide a packed vegetarian lunch on the Full Day Tours. The lunch normally consists of a pasta salad, a homemade granola bar and fresh fruit. We can cater to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and nut-free diets. Please let us know in advance when you are booking the tour.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have a dietary requirement or if you have an allergy that does not fall into one of the categories above. We will let you know if we are able to provide a suitable meal for you or whether it would be best to bring your own food.

I have a disability, can I come kayaking?

We will always do our best to ensure you can safely enjoy this amazing activity! Please be aware however, that this activity may not be suitable for everyone.

Please contact us well before you are interested in booking and we can discuss options. Last minute requests may not be possible as we might require extra staffing. If we are able to take you out kayaking without an increased risk to your safety and if we are able to organise the appropriate gear/staffing, then we will do our best to get you out on the water.

Can I bring my pet/service animal?

Unfortunately, we don't allow pets in our kayaks. But if you have a service animal, please contact us and we can chat about how to make that work.

Question 26

What is the weather like in Malta?

Accepted Answer

Malta is the warmest country in Europe and we generally enjoy a long hot summer! The humidity is high which often makes the "real feel" temperature higher than the actual temperatures seen below.

The shoulder months of our season (March - May; Sept - Oct) can be unpredictable with windy patches and heavy rains. But we also have wonderful calm, warm days in between!

What is the water temperature in Malta?

Compared to the rest of Europe, we have very warm seas! In the height of summer they can reach up to 30°C.
